The XIV Portuguese Congress of Sociology, titled "Futures in Construction: Sociology in the Public Sphere," invites us to reflect on the role of our discipline in the production of socially relevant knowledge and its presence in the public sphere. Considering the current scenario—characterized by constant and profound technological changes as well as deep crises affecting various dimensions of human life—the Thematic Section on Globalization, Politics, and Citizenship offers a privileged space to analyze how global flows of people, ideas, and capital are both contributing and responding to these shifts and crises, redefining citizenship practices and challenging the policies of contemporary democracies.

The ST Globalization, Politics, and Citizenship calls for papers, posters, and visual documents (such as short films) that aim to:
- Analyze the processes of creating sociological knowledge on and with marginalized and stigmatized individuals and groups whose citizenship and political decision are being tested by current changes and crises;
- Discuss the most recent citizenship policies and practices of both States and individuals to promote their interests;
- Reflect on the ambiguities and dilemmas that activists, groups, and organizations encounter in asserting citizenship rights in the face of the rise of identity politics;
- Present the opportunities and limitations for sociology to contribute to strengthening the citizenship and political participation of individuals and groups, such as migrant workers, refugees, sex workers, institutionalized individuals, the poor, etc.;
- Discuss the opportunities and limits of citizenship regarding (new) technologies and how the forms of sociology contribute to it.

Special attention will be given to proposals - from academic or professional circles - that present results of empirical research and/or that problematize, in an innovative way, concepts and/or discuss the most recent policies and social changes.

Proposals, in addition to theoretical essays, must be formulated presenting their theoretical framework, objectives, methodologies used, diagnoses, results and conclusions.

Professional contributions can take the form of experience reports, including context, objectives, actors involved, methodologies, activities developed, and key learnings.

Proposals must be submitted via the personal area by the deadline specified in the submission guidelines.

Proposals may be submitted in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.

The maximum length of the abstract is 2,500 characters (excluding spaces).

Evaluation will consider the clarity of objectives, methodological adequacy, relevance of results, and the overall quality of the proposal.

The Congress will take place in person at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve, in Faro, from 23 to 25 March 2027, and may include online sessions on 22 March. At the time of submission, authors must indicate whether they intend to participate in person or online.

All the authors will be invited to submit the full papers for publication in the Congress Proceedings.

The guidelines and deadlines for abstract submission can be found on the "Submission and Guidelines" page.
